About
EPA and DHA are incorporated into skin cell membranes, modulating inflammatory eicosanoid production and competing with pro-inflammatory omega-6 arachidonic acid. A systematic review found omega-3 supplementation (1-4 g/day) reduced UV-induced erythema and may increase the skin's minimal erythema dose (MED). In atopic dermatitis, a meta-analysis suggested modest improvements in clinical severity scores.
How It Works
EPA and DHA are incorporated into skin cell membranes, modulating inflammatory eicosanoid production; compete with pro-inflammatory omega-6 arachidonic acid for COX and LOX enzyme pathways; support skin barrier lipid composition and may increase the minimal erythema dose (MED) for UV protection.
