L-Lysine

An essential amino acid involved in collagen formation, iron absorption, and immune function.

L-lysine is an essential amino acid that the body cannot synthesize and must obtain from diet or supplementation. It plays roles in collagen synthesis, calcium absorption, carnitine production, and immune function. In supplement research, L-lysine is studied for its potential to enhance iron and zinc absorption — minerals critical for hair growth. Research suggests L-lysine supplementation (1,500 mg/day) alongside iron may improve ferritin levels more effectively than iron alone, particularly in women with chronic telogen effluvium. Dietary sources include meat, fish, eggs, and legumes.
